A brief guide to Lago di Como

It was one of those long hot summer weekends in the middle of July when we found ourselves in the North of Italy next to Lake Como. We spent the weekend taking refreshing dips into the lake, admiring the surroundings and (of course!) eating. This is my brief set of tips for anyone who wants to spend spring/summer/early autumn weekend in this little piece of paradise.

Ding Dong in Venice

Venice is, undoubtedly, a spectacular place. During my recent visit these little pieces of metal grabbed my attention. This island city has a particularly beautiful doorbells!

Knock know Venice:

(h)And(g)rea meets Europe

So Andrea came to visit us… Don’t worry we treated her well! She is already back in the beautiful and sunny Chuauauaua. But while she was here we tried to show her as much as possible in Europe. So besides Brussels we also made 3 weekend trips: to Jaime’s beloved Netherlands, a wonder city of Venice and took a bus ride to Paris!

Andrea also brought Hangrea. Hangrea was particularly interested in finding something as close as it could get to tacos. So this is how it all went…

Canals, bicycles, little streets, Ana Frank museum, corner bars… January is cold and windy in this port city but even so it is beautiful and a unique place to visit!

Ohhh Venice what a pleasure to see you in deep winter! With less people on the streets, shorter queues and fog you only look more mystical! We did not mind the rain and high tide at all. There is something magical about you and, in my opinion, it is more visible in winter!

Not to mention that Hangrea was very happy here! All the pizzas, pastas, lasagnias….

A few tips:

  • A free Venice walking tour is definitely worth your time
  • hi!tide Venice is a very useful app if you want keep your shoes dry in here!

And last but not least. Find 10 difference now and 10 years ago…

Everybody knows that Nr 1 to do thing in Paris is the Eiffel Tower pic! Success!

But apart from the Eiffel Tower we did all classic Paris’ spots: Tuileries Garden, Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, Champ de Mars, Jardin du Luxembourg, Panthéon etc etc. And Paris played its magic on Andrea!

We miss you Andrea! Come back soon!

All roads go to the beach How's the water

As my better half was turning 34 and days were getting colder and darker in Brussels, we decided to celebrate it on the beach in Sardinia. Ohh gods we were sooooo wrong…

Even though Google shows that Sardinia is not a bad beaching spot for the beginning of October (I was expecting 24 degrees and more), we exceptionally got a lot of rain. Nevertheless we enjoyed it to the fullest!

The capital of the island. Cute & Cozy. Center/Marina – easily walkable with a bit of mountain hiking.

To stay: Giuseppe’s Airbnb. My birthday boy especially loved all hi-tech devices that Giuseppe has in the apartment. Location was ideal! A wonderful terrace with a view to the city.

To eat:

Corso dodici – gastrobar right in the center. Great service/food/winde & dessert + full of locals which always is a good sign

To drink:

Mojito Di Damu Pietro – stone stairs just outside the bar full with happy people drinking and enjoying pleasant Cagliari nights.

Cagliari at Night Clouds :(

Beautiful town in the north west of the island with a charming old town. 2.5 hours of drive from Cagliari; 3 hours if you choose the picturesque road going through the mountains with the view to the beautiful coast. It was raining – so we had time!

To eat: Il pesce d’oro – recomendation by hotel – delicious food and nice service. Quite busy on a Saturday night. As we did not have a reservation we were warned that we will have to leave in 1.5 hour. Time came and we were politely checked out – at least they warned us! 🙂 Nevertheless pay a visit!

To drink: the old town was quite calm that chilly October Saturday, so we just passed by Birreria Sant Miguel Alghero for a finishing drink on the swings.

Beach day – South West coast:

Even though the East North of the island is known as the place to be for the beach, the rain only allowed us to visit South West cost. Having left 5 hours before the plane, Jaime chose a small beach spiaggia di Sa Mesa Longa

Luckily enough this small spot had a cozy restaurant Sottovento, run by a charming Italian man, who seemed to know everyone coming to have lunch to his place. A greenhouse next to the restaurant reassured that this place has good local good!
